CLECKHEATON, YORKSHIRE


LEASE DATED 9 NOVEMBER 1826

 

A vellum Indenture being a Lease for a year of land or ground being part of the Lower Whitliffe situate at Cleckheaton in the County of York dated 9 November 1826, Joshua Jowett to George Anderton reading as follows:

 This Indenture made the ninth day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty six Between Joshua Jowett of Cleckheaton in the county of York Clothier of the one part and George Anderton of Cleckheaton aforesaid worsted spinner of the other part Witnesseth that for and in consideration of five shillings of lawful money of Great Britain to the said Joshua Jowett in hand paid by the said George Anderton at or before the sealing and delivery of these presents (the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged) He the said Joshua Jowett Hath bargained and sold and by these presents Doth bargain and sell unto the said George Anderton his executors administrators and assigns All those pieces or parcels of land or ground situate at Cleckheaton aforesaid being part of the Lower Whitliffe containing together by estimation two acres and sixteen perches be the same more or less and now in the tenure or occupation of the said Joshua Jowett which same two pieces or parcels of ground are fenced off by a wall extending from the fence adjoining the highway leading to Bradford to the fence adjoining the land belonging to Timothy Greenwood And the reversion and reversions remainder and remainders rents issues and profits of all and singular the said premises To have and to hold all and singular the said hereditaments and premises hereby bargained and sold or mentioned or intended so to be with their and every of their appurtenances unto the said George Anderton his executors administrators and assigns from the day next before the day of the date of these presents for and during and unto the full end and term of one whole year from thence next ensuing and fully to be complete and ended Yielding and Paying therefore unto the said Joshua Jowett his heirs and assigns the rent of one peppercorn at the end of the said term (if the same shall be lawfully demanded) to the intent and purpose that by virtue of these presents and of the statute for transferring uses into possession the said George Anderton may be in the actual possession of the said premises hereby bargained and sold and be thereby enabled to accept and take a grant and release of the reversion and inheritance of the same premises to and to the use of him and his heirs and assigns In witness whereof the said parties to these presents have hereunto set their hands and seals the day and year first above written
