DEED DATED 30 MAY 1664

A substantial and very interesting Indenture on four sheets of vellum being a Deed dated 30 May 1664, made in consideration of a Marriage intended to be shortly had and solemnised between Sir William Calley and Elizabeth Nicholas, of Manors, Messuages, Farms, Buildings, Lands, a Grange, Park, Advowson & Patronage of a Vicarage described in this very lengthy document which gives alternative spellings for different places.

The Manors have the various Manorial rights which includes such as the Tythes, Courts and other rights and waifs, estrays, goods of felons and fugitives.

Some of the places named are Burderop, given as Burdropp alias Burythorpe alias Burythropp (including Burdropp Park), Chiseldon given as Chuseldon alias Cheseldon, Hodson alias Hoddesdon, Monck Baron alias Monken baron alias Monken Barne, Fiddington alias Fished Verdone alias Fished Warden in the parishes of Lavington Episcopi and Market Lavington, Easterton in the parish of Market Lavington, Easterton Garnham alias Lavington Garnham alias East Lavington all in the county of Wiltshire.

This really is an extraordinary document for which the transcription covers twenty-eight pages. It would be impossible to include below everything in it as well as warranting further research.

See below for further information about the people named in this document.
