SOUTH BREWHAM, SOMERSET


LEASE DATED 28 SEPTEMBER 1808

 

A vellum Indenture being a Lease for a year of a messuage tenement or dwellinghouse and Inn called the Bull Inn at Hardway with the lands and premises situate at Hardway in the parish of South Brewham in the County of Somerset dated 28 September 1808, Mr George Messiter to Mr William Bennett reading as follows:

 This Indenture made the twenty eighth day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eight Between George Messiter of Wincanton in the county of Somerset gentleman of the one part and William Bennett of Bruton in the said county collimaker of the other part Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of ten shillings lawful money of Great Britain to the said George Messiter in hand well and truly paid by the said William Bennett at or before the sealing and delivery hereof the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged He the said George Messiter Hath bargained and sold And by these presents Doth bargain and sell unto the said William Bennett All that messuage tenement or dwellinghouse and Inn with the stable and outhouses thereunto adjoining and belonging commonly called or known by the name or sign of the Bull Inn at Hardway near whereunto there was formerly a gate called Hardway Gate with a plot of ground adjoining thereto Also all that close of Meadow or pasture ground commonly called Corkhillhays containing about two acres and all that the South part of a close of Meadow called Freaks Hill otherwise Hills Mead containing two acres three quarters and thirty four luggs and all that the North part of the same close containing three acres and ten luggs (be the same premises any or either of them more or less) All which said premises were heretofore the freehold estate of Nicholas Keates deceased since of William Keates late in the occupation of Elizabeth Coles widow as tenant thereof to John Keates eldest son and heir and also surviving devisee in trust of the said William Keates and are situate lying and being at Hardway within the parish of South Brewham in the county of Somerset aforesaid and were lately purchased and conveyed from the said John Keates to the said George Messiter in trust for Richard Messiter gentleman and all other the lands late of the said John Keates situate in Hardway aforesaid and all lands taken in lieu of or in exchange for the aforesaid hereditaments or any of them or by whatsoever other name or names or description the same hereditaments or any of them now are or might have been at any time heretofore called known or distinguished together with all houses outhouses edifices buildings ways paths passages waters watercourses trees woods underwoods hedges and hedgerows and the ground and soil of the same commons common of pasture easements profits privileges or advantages emoluments and appurtenances whatsoever to the said messuage or tenement lands and premises belonging or in any wise appertaining and the reversion and reversions rents issues and profits thereof and of every part thereof To have and to hold the said messuage or dwellinghouse lands hereditaments and premises hereby bargained and sold or intended so to be with their respective rights members and appurtenances unto the said William Bennett his executors administrators and assigns from the day next before the day of the date hereof for and during and unto the full end and term of one whole year Under the rent of a pepper corn payable therefore at the end of the said term (if demanded) To the intent that by virtue of these presents and by force and virtue of the statute made for transferring uses into possession the said William Bennett may be in the actual possession of all and singular the said premises hereby bargained and sold with their appurtenances and may be thereby enabled to accept and take a Grant and Release of the Reversion and Inheritance in fee simple of the same premises in and by a certain Indenture intended to bear date the day next after the day of the date hereof to for and upon the several uses and trusts therein to be mentioned expressed and declared In witness whereof the said parties to these presents have hereunto severally set their hands and seals the day and year first above written
