LAST
WILL AND TESTAMENT
HENRY
PLOWMAN
A paper
document being an attested copy dated 8 February 1785 of
the Last Will and Testament dated 8 September 1751 of Henry
Plowman deceased, Gentleman of Northampton.
This is an
interesting Will, mentioning amongst other things that the testator left forty
shillings to the poor of St Gyles in the town of Northampton to be distributed among them in wheaten bread the Sunday after
his burial. He also refers to a number properties in Northamptonshire, Leicestershire,
London and Yorkshire and two seats or pews in St Gyles Church as well as
jewellery such as a ruby ring with diamonds, a pearl necklace and a three stone
diamond ring. Amongst a number of other bequests he leaves the sum of £150 to “my
haughty nephew Henry William Markham” and also comments that it is “…enough in
my opinion to be squandered away in as vain and silly a manner as he and his
wife shall think fit”
