LANCASHIRE AND CUMBERLAND


SETTLEMENT DATED 8 JUNE 1739

 

A substantial vellum Indenture being a Settlement dated 8 June 1739 made for the intended Marriage of Richard Dashwood with Ann Peyton of Fee Farm Rents in the counties of Lancashire and Cumberland and in consideration of the sum of £2,700, Richard Dashwood Esquire to Sir Thomas Peyton and Others.

The document mentions the following various places (the spellings from 1739 have been preserved) with the amounts of the Annual Rent or Fee Farm: Melling, Lancashire, Great and Little Poulton, Lancashire, Overborrowe and Neitherborrowe, Lancashire, the Scite of the late Monastery of Cockerland, Lancashire, Manor of Westhaughton, Lancashire, Manor of Whatton, Lancashire, Manor of Spotland, Thatborne and Kittworth, Lancashire, Manor of Alcar, Lancashire, lands in Michael Church, Lancashire called Vicars Hayes, Kilbridge thorpe, Lancashire, Mawton and Romesgrove, Lancashire, Manor and Grange of Steyneings and Manor of Croenton, Lancashire, Manor of Stead, Lancashire, Mills called Hart Mill, Sea Mill and New Mill, Lancashre, Manor of Cranford, Lancashire, Rectory of Croston, Lancashire, Church of Winwicke, Lancashire, Rectory of Tunstall, Lancashire, Manors of Aston and Scotford, Lancashire, Wappentage of Amondernes, Lancashire, Wappentage of Lonsdale, Lancashire, Rectory of Garstange, Lancashire, Hart Park, Lancashire, Scite of the Priory of Laverstocke otherwise Laverstock otherwise Lavercroft, Cumberland, Great and Little Broughton and Papcaster in the parish of Bridekirke, Cumberland, Rectory of Burgh near Sea Sands, Cumberland, Rectory of Brigham, Cumberland, City of Carliel. There is also a mention later in the document of the Manors of Great Ravely and Moines in Great Ravely in Huntingdonshire which were subject of an Indenture made in 1732 between Sir Thomas Peyton and Ann Peyton for securing the sum of £2,000.
