COSCOTT, EAST HAGBOURNE, BERKSHIRE

DEED OF COVENANT DATED 26 AUGUST 1833

A substantial vellum Indenture being a Deed of Covenant for the production of Deeds relating to hereditaments, described in the document, to which partition has been made between Mr and Mrs Norris and Mr and Mrs Clarke dated 26 August 1833, Mr John Norris and Mary Humfrey his wife and Mr Joseph Clarke and Catherine his wife with Mr Daniel Lousley (details below).

The document is regarding messuages or dwellinghouses, dovehouses, barns, stables, other outbuildings and premises with a considerable amount of land described in the document situate in Coscott in the parish of East Hagbourne, Berkshire (in Berkshire until 1974 since when it has been in Oxfordshire).

There are two detailed Schedules of land and premises and a Schedule of earlier Deeds dating from 1690.

In the Schedule of Deeds some names are regularly mentioned. When they are mentioned for the first time it generally gives their status and above and when they arise subsequently it just gives the name preceded by the words "the said" or "the last named" indicating that this is the same person as previously mentioned. However, for some names (ie Richard Simes) in a number of instances the document gives the name, status and above afresh, thus indicating that it may not be the same man so I have had to make separate entries below when this occurs. There are also a number of variant spellings of names but they are listed below as they are in the original document.
